About Me

Hi,

Here’s a little about me.  Mostly I like to sit in my home office with my head in my computer.  But if you are reading this you probably feel the same way.  When I’m not doing that I like to spend time with my two kidlets.  Cleaning them, feeding them, making them giggle.

Professionally I have 20 years of experience spanning agriculture, healthcare, insurance, education, government, utilities, spirits and wines, retail, manufacturing, and software industries in Canada and the U.S., in all aspects of the project life cycle from requirements gathering and strategy to solution development.  I was was awarded the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) status for SQL two years in a row. My blog is widely followed with 200,000 visitors per year and growing. My focus is currently in business information solutions including requirements gathering, recommendations on best approach, data warehouse design, cube development and reporting solutions development.  I am is recognized as a subject matter expert in the Microsoft SQL Server product suite. I also held PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential for eleven years from 2005 to 2016.

  1. Hi Data Queen, I am Mossip Queen (Mossip like Gossip – such a shame MOSS is now just SharePoint Server) 🙂
    I just thought I would drop you a line as our blogs and careers are quite similiar, although I am aaaall the way over the other side of the earth, in Australia.

  2. I stumbled upon your site while researching some methods to perform continous audit and reporting. This is a great resource/site and I am glad to have found it!.

    I was wondering if you take request for your blog? If so, have you had any experiences with importing AD GPO policy into a BI tool? i.e. Reporting on password complexity settings, etc?

      I tend to blog whenever I run into something new that I don’t want to forget how to do next time. 🙂 I don’t have any experience yet with AD GPO policy. Good luck with it!

  3. Dear Martina, Need your suggesetion, I have started my carrier with Sql & TSql with current expn of 3.5 yrs n jumped into MSBI now.
    I am average in my skills and that too limits me in Database & BI only.
    Can u suggest, if i should go for front end coding such too or any other technology which would boost my carrier.I am 28 now.

    1. The hot thing in BI right now is PowerPivot and PowerView. A knowledge of SharePoint and how BI plugs into that is an asset. Maybe you want to look at .NET programming, as I see a lot of opportunities pop up for that. Hope it helps.

  4. I’ve always done Sharepoint and more recently Nintex WF and Infopath. Now starting to do SSRS and SQL work and this has become one of my favourites sites!

    Thanks for starting your blog. I’ve been working in the .NET/SQL world since before .NET was even .NET, and cut my database teeth in Foxpro in the early 90s (did I just say that outloud?) 🙂 I’m just now getting into the BI side of SQL but stumbled across your blog today while looking for some help with Postgres. Keep up the great articles. Very helpful. I should do the same thing, but I never seem to have time to blog about my “career” only the fun things I like to 🙂

    First of all, thank you for you posts. I have found them very useful. I’m a beginner to SSIS, but I’m trying to do exactly what you’ve posted, querying AD and importing into SQL table. I was wondering if you ever wanted to limit what you get returned from AD? Do you know if there is a way to only return a handful of attributes from AD? I would think that it would be pretty expensive to return everything, when I only need sAMAccountName, givenName, SN, department, company, and mail. I’ve been looking around on the web, but don’t see anything when using a script task. Any light you can shed would be much apprectiated.

  7. SharePoint Report Subscriptions:
    I need to schedule some reports to run, but they need to run based on the third Tuesday in the month. I have researched this and so far cannot find a way to do this. If anyone has found a way to do this, please, let me know

    I am trying to use SharePoint Source in my Foreach Loop Container.. I populated three variables and want to use those in my SP Source Properties, “@[User::SharePointSiteUrl]” Can you let me know how to get those variable in my SP SOurce properties? and the correct format?
